What came to your mind when you first heard the word pedophile. According to www.wikipedia.org, pedophilia is a psychiatric disorder in which an adult or older adolescent experiences a primary or exclusive sexual attraction to prepubescent children.
If you are a parent, think of this for a moment – your children mean the whole world to you. Right from when they have been conceived, you have been taking a good care of them. You have always made sure that they are safe, eat good food, and have the best education you can ever think of. Seeing your kids growing gives you so much pleasure.
How will you feel if an adult or an adolescent take advantage of your kid? That will be hard to imagine. For that not to happen, you need to protect your children. Make them save in this crazy and animalistic world.
Pedophiles can be found anywhere – at school, religious organizations, in the neighborhood, and, worst of all, even among relatives. There have been reports of kids being molested by their uncles, teachers, housekeepers, grandfathers, even their own fathers.
I know the question that will come to your mind now: “Is how can you protect your children from pedophiles?” The following suggestions will surely help.
1.There is a saying that prevention is better than cure. The best way to protect your children from pedophiles is to let them know they exist. Always train your children to be defensive. Let them know that no one has the right to touch their private parts, not even you. Tell your child that if any one touches his or her private parts, they should scream and let the person know they will report to parents.
2.Sexual abuse occurs when a child is alone. They may be in a religious building, office, car and many other places you may not even think of. You need to protect your kids. Never allow them to stay with an adult for a long period of time.
3.Reduce the amount of time the adult has close contact with your child. Always check your child phone for messages they send and receive. You are not intruding into their privacy, you are saving them from any serious trouble.
4.Never allow any adult to call your child “my husband or my wife.” It is unacceptable.
5.While employing a housekeeper at home, try to find out the history of such one, once a pedophile, often times is always a pedopile.
6.If your child tells you that someone touched his or her private parts or does something questionable, please believe them and react something immediately.
7.Let you children know the real name of their private parts. They deserve to know them. For instance, in Yoruba land, many parents are fond of using euphemisms by telling their kids that there penis or vagina are called “kòkòrò.”
8.You children are your world. They should take bigger part of your life than your job or any other things. Remember, family comes first. Try to have time for your kids and be ready to answer any question they may have. Build trust in them so much that they will be able to tell you anything.
